Here’s An Idea – Give the Gift of Food!

If you’re like me, you struggle year after year to land on precisely the right gift for everyone on your list.

It’s pretty difficult.

But one thing I’ve found that EVERYONE appreciates?

Good food!

It’s one of the few things we all have in common. We all have to eat.

And a beautiful meal is so memorable. Isn’t that what we’re looking for at holiday time anyway? Incredible memories?

I’m giving things like gift-boxed steaks and holiday meal combos this year. Can you imagine receiving a prime rib roast and smoked ham from someone? Wouldn’t that make your day, your week, your SEASON?

Plus, it’s a pay-it-forward kind of gift. Your recipient then gets to cook those steak gifts for someone else – and that person will surely thank you, too!

What’s on Your Thanksgiving Menu?

So I’ve already told you that I MUST have a turkey on my Thanksgiving table.

But that doesn’t mean there won’t be other options. I like to have a spiral sliced ham on board, too, so I can make future breakfasts and lunches with it.

Have YOU ever been daring and served something a bit less traditional for Thanksgiving? Perhaps a gorgeous Chateaubriand or a prime rib roast?

That’s not to say that those amazing meals are not classics in their own right, they’re just not strictly by the book like a Thanksgiving turkey.

They’re edgy. Daring. Different.

And I like that.

Holiday Centerpiece Favorites

Oh, how I love this time of year!

Halloween is over and it’s time to start thinking HOLIDAY MEALS!

I look forward to this with great anticipation all year long.

When I think of my holiday meals, I first think about the centerpiece of the meal.

My personal go-to centerpieces are a gorgeous Chateaubriand or a prime rib roast (oh the beef!) and a spiral-sliced ham. My family loves them all.

At holiday time especially, presentation is so very important. And these main course centerpieces make quite an impression.

And, of course, they TASTE delicious! You just have to decide which taste to go with.

That’s the fun part! Good thing is, holiday time brings lots of visitors and lots of mealtimes. You really can serve them all over the next couple of months!

Prime Rib, You Temptress!

Prime Rib is so divine, in my house, it’s usually reserved for very special occasions – Christmas, a special dinner party, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve … you get the picture.

I can’t ever remember a time when I decided to cook one on a regular old Tuesday night.

But why?

We love it so much, ANY day could be a special occasion. Its flavor and aroma is so, so tempting. I don’t know why we wait so long in between indulgences.

I can see it now. My husband walks in and smells the Prime Rib Roast cooking and he immediately is perplexed and suspicious.

“Is there something you need to tell me?” he’ll ask.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Let’s get out of our routine-ified ruts. Let’s branch out a little!

Next Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday why not cook a Prime Rib Roast just because?

If anything, those days need a little pick-me-up. I know mine do.

Steak Enthusiast’s Guide to the Weekend

It’s the weekend!

Time for some great food and relaxing moments. Here’s my guide for making your weekend great — with food, of course!

Saturday Morning

Start off with some steak and eggs. A tried and true steak lover‘s breakfast. You’ll need your energy for the weekend! Might I suggest a Top Sirloin?

Saturday Afternoon

Lunch consists of tender, flavorful steak fajitas (see above). This is a meal meant to be shared so invite some neighbors and get grilling!

Saturday Night

Dinner is filet mignon and twice baked potatoes. It’s Saturday night – that’s Steak Night!

Sunday Brunch

Breakfast tacos with ground beef and sausage get the day started off in the right direction. A brunch with Mimosas and a variety of taco fixings just makes sense.

Sunday Dinner

This is the time to slow down and make family memories. A beautiful beef roast is in order. Perhaps a Chateaubriand, a Prime Rib Roast or even a Brisket. Take your time and savor this one — but leave some leftovers for Monday’s lunch at the office! :)

Now that you’ve got your menu it’s time to get planning the perfect steak enthusiast’s weekend. I know I’m ready!

Gorgeous Prime Rib for the New Year

We’re all gearing up to ring in 2014 in style. So why not serve a meal that screams, “Special occasion!!!!!”

That would be prime rib. Oh, beautiful, delicious, prime rib.

We make statements with our food. We may not realize it but we do. Cheeseburgers say, “Hey, I’m being casual. Shoes are optional.” But prime rib? That says, “This is important to me and we must celebrate!”

Chef Michael Symon has some excellent advice for making YOUR prime rib the best it can be. See his prime rib tips here.

This one takes time, folks. So if you’re in a hurry the cheeseburgers might be a better option. But if you have the time to do it properly, salt overnight, let it sit after it’s done in the oven – THIS will be a masterpiece.

What better way to usher in the new year???

Beefy 12 Month Plan

I’m thinking this might be for me. It might take all the guesswork out of meal planning and ensure that I have something tasty on hand at all times.

It’s a 12 Month Plan with pretty awesome choices like Beef Wellington, T-bones, Prime Rib Roast, Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon…

But…I am going to send them to myself. It’s a gift to myself that will keep on giving.

Seems like a smart way to make sure I’m ready to go with some amazing menu items. I’m all about making life easier for myself this year and this seems like a great option.

Pre-planning. What a concept! I wish I had fully embraced it before. I might have saved myself a whole lot of heartache – and scrambling. Check it out here if you want to try it, too.

Beef Bowl is My Kinda Bowl Game

Football players and steak. They just go together.

And the Rose Bowl competitors get to participate in an additional Bowl game every year that combines those two — the Beef Bowl. It’s sharing some amazing prime rib with teammates and getting ready for a highly competitive, important game. It’s camraderie and good food.

It’s really, really cool.

Here’s how the LA Times describes it:

For the last five decades, the participating teams have taken part in the ‘Beef Bowl’ at Lawry’s the Prime Rib in Beverly Hills. The restaurant says it’s fed more than 75,000 pounds of beef to about 19,000 players and coaches.

I’ve decided that since I do not – nor will I ever – qualify to participate in the Beef Bowl, I will just have to replicate it for myself at home.

In fact, to celebrate the new year tonight, we’re going to cook up some steaks, rub elbows with friends and just talk. Sounds just like the Beef Bowl to me.
