Easter Dinner Giveaway

By

Are you thinking about Easter yet? It’ll be here before we know it. It’s on March 31st this year!

If you’re feeling lucky, enter this contest from the Kansas City Steak Company for your chance to win a complete Easter dinner – Smoked Ham or Prime Rib, Twice Baked Potatoes and Carrot Cake or Red Velvet Cake.

I, for one, would LOVE to have my Easter dinner planned out ahead of time. Saves me from scrambling to fit it into all the millions of other things going on in my life.

It sure will be nice to slow down and have a beautiful meal with the ones I love, though. And on cue, my stomach is growling.

Let me know if you’re the lucky winner of the complete meal giveaway. My family and I would love to join you. ;)

Good luck!

Is Prime Rib Prime Beef?

By

…and other burning questions answered.

Have you ever wondered this yourself? (Answer:  Not necessarily. And probably not.)

The prime rib name refers to where the beef is cut from, not its grade.

But this article is a good refresher on beef grades and other beefy distinctions if you need a quick guide.

It always helps to brush up on your beef knowledge so that you can make the best choices for the recipes you try.

Beefy 12 Month Plan

By

I’m thinking this might be for me. It might take all the guesswork out of meal planning and ensure that I have something tasty on hand at all times.

It’s a 12 Month Plan with pretty awesome choices like Beef Wellington, T-bones, Prime Rib Roast, Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon…

But…I am going to send them to myself. It’s a gift to myself that will keep on giving.

Seems like a smart way to make sure I’m ready to go with some amazing menu items. I’m all about making life easier for myself this year and this seems like a great option.

Pre-planning. What a concept! I wish I had fully embraced it before. I might have saved myself a whole lot of heartache – and scrambling. Check it out here if you want to try it, too.

Here’s to a less-harried 2012!!!

Beef Bowl is My Kinda Bowl Game

By

Football players and steak. They just go together.

And the Rose Bowl competitors get to participate in an additional Bowl game every year that combines those two — the Beef Bowl. It’s sharing some amazing prime rib with teammates and getting ready for a highly competitive, important game. It’s camraderie and good food.

It’s really, really cool.

Here’s how the LA Times describes it:

For the last five decades, the participating teams have taken part in the ‘Beef Bowl’ at Lawry’s the Prime Rib in Beverly Hills. The restaurant says it’s fed more than 75,000 pounds of beef to about 19,000 players and coaches.

I’ve decided that since I do not – nor will I ever – qualify to participate in the Beef Bowl, I will just have to replicate it for myself at home.

In fact, to celebrate the new year tonight, we’re going to cook up some steaks, rub elbows with friends and just talk. Sounds just like the Beef Bowl to me.

You can read all about the 2010 Beef Bowl here.

And Happy New Year, everybody! May 2011 be filled with good food and great experiences!

How Long is Too Long for Leftovers?

By

The Christmas meal has come and gone. But you still have turkey, ham, prime rib and various and sundry sides in your fridge.

How long can we keep nibbling on them?

As you can imagine, there are many schools of thought on this. But I like Madam Trainer’s explanation here.  She makes some good arguments and I, personally, like to err on the side of caution with this one.

Check out her sage advice here and let me know what YOU think!

Beefy Thanksgiving

By

Can you believe how close we are to Thanksgiving?

Are you a “Turkey All the Way” family or is there something a little less traditional on your menu?

We like a gorgeous prime rib roast. It’s so visually beautiful and it makes people feel special. Really good meat does that.

Of course, there are the purists in our family who think they cannot get through a Thanksgiving Day without the annual dose of tryptophan. So, a turkey is also served.

But for us adventurous ones, prime rib goes a long way.

And then….have you ever had a leftover prime rib roast sandwich on Black Friday while overdosing on football?

Priceless.

Spice it up a little this Thanksgiving! There’s something to be thankful for. :)

The 12 Meats of Christmas

By

prime_lrg08_Detail

Sometimes holiday classic tunes need a little updating.  And what better way to spend the 12 Days of Christmas than with the ones you love?

The foods you love, that is.

So here it goes . . . cue the carolers!

“The 12 Meats of Christmas”

On the twelfth day of Christmas, KC Steaks shipped to me:

Twelve roasts a-roasting,

Eleven pork chops sizzling,

Ten seasonings seasoning,

Nine strip steaks smoking,

Eight ribs a-braising,

Seven filets mignon-ing,

Six ribeyes marbling,

Five ste-ak-burgers, (pause, pause, pause)

Four T-bones,

Three prime ribs,

Two tenderloin,

And a hickory smoked tur-r-r-r-key!!!

Whew!  I’m tired.  And hungry.

Wanna send your own 12 Meats of Christmas?  Start here!
