How To Build the Best Burger

Classic Steakburger with Cheese Sauce

The best burgers start with one thing: top quality meat.

I prefer burgers made from steaks – steakburgers using ground steak beef. For a real treat, try American Wagyu beef. It’s a delicacy that’s a bit more expensive, but worth the expense. This beef is tender and flavorful and a great starting point for a burger with endless possibilities.

Also known as Kobe beef, THIS is the basis for a steakburger you won’t forget.

From this point on, the rest is up to your own personal preferences: cheese or no cheese? Vidalia onions? Bacon? Blue cheese? Wheat bun?

The ideas just keep coming. But remember, if the beef itself is sub-par, there’s really no hope for greatness after that.

Check out these fantastic burger ideas and build a burger you’ll keep coming back to!

Baseball Tailgating Ideas

Burgers and Hot Dogs

We all know that baseball season is just another excuse to tailgate. And that makes me so, so happy!

Watching America’s pastime while eating a steakburger is pure heaven for me. And gathering friends to tailgate together makes it that much sweeter.

Since the weather is starting to warm up, we like to take it outside and throw some steaks on the grill. And burgers, too!

A really nice twist is some delicious sirloin steak sandwiches. Sandwiches are always a hit. But put some steaks inside there and you’ve got fans for life!

What are your favorite baseball tailgating treats?

Burger Recipe Time!

Burgers on Grill

Spring is here! Spring is here!

The official start to spring makes me insanely happy. It signals sunnier days and, truthfully, better moods in my house.

With warm weather naturally comes lots of grill time and that means BURGERS!!!

I prefer steakburgers – made from ground beef of steaks – because they just taste better. Plain and simple.

And you know I adore my steaks, so it only makes sense that my burgers follow suit.

I’m always on the lookout for ways to spice up my burgers and the beginning of a new season seems like a great time to try out some new recipes. Like this Tropical Burger made with Wagyu Kobe beef:

Tropical Burger

Ingredients:
4 Wagyu Kobe Beef Steakburgers
salt and pepper
4 buns, toasted
4 fontina cheese slices
4 pineapple slices
1/2 cup prepared mango chutney
1 red onion, sliced
4 lettuce leaves

Directions: Season burgers with salt and pepper, and then grill on a hot grill. While the burgers are grilling, also place the slices of pineapple, and red onion on the grill, and grill them as well, to cook them slightly. When the burgers are almost done, place 1 slice of fontina cheese on each burger, and melt slightly. Remove burgers from heat and let them rest for five minutes. To build, place one slice of grilled red onion, on the bottom half of the bun, place burger on top with a slice of pineapple, and lettuce leaf on top, and the mango chutney on the top half of the bun.

Servings: 4

Host a Watch Party for the “Big Dance”

Sliders

It’s the perfect time to host a watch party!

Any excuse is a good one if it involves gathering friends and serving great food!

Cheer on your favorite teams as they find out who will go to the “Big Dance.” Have fun with your food selections by using a basketball theme.

Try serving steakburgers with cheese shaped like basketballs. And cupcakes are fun to easily decorate to mimic a basketball – they’re already round!

Anything ball-shaped can quickly fit into your hoops-themed party. Cake balls become basket-cake-balls. Cookies are easy to decorate. And so is pizza! Just use pepperonis to create the distinctive lines of the basketball.

Not feeling that creative? Serve your favorite foods (like steak) on basketball-themed plates and napkins. Your fans will be just as appreciative!

Happy hosting!

Celebrate the Big Game Arizona Style – Chimichangas!

Chimichanga

The folklore goes that in 1922, a restaurateur in Arizona accidentally dropped a pastry into the deep fryer and exclaimed, “Chimichanga!”

That’s Spanish for thingamajig.

Fill it with some sour cream, cheese and beef and you’ve got yourself today’s version of the chimichanga.

Now, since Sunday’s big game is being played in Arizona, it only feels right to honor that venue by serving up some beef chimichangas while you watch!

Check out this incredible beef chimichanga recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/beef-chimichangas/

Many versions of this recipe call for ground beef like you’d find in steakburgers, but you can experiment and use shredded Wagyu beef or any cut of shredded steak you love.

Have fun with your chimichangas and the big game this weekend! I know I will!

Top Sirloin and Steakburgers – Two At Once

Top Sirloin and Steakburgers

So, in my house, people like to make things difficult. Not everyone likes the same cut of beef.

Okay, I’m just as much to blame.

But, we like what we like, right?

For that reason, I usually cook “options.”

When my boys are involved (which is basically always) I love to do meals on the grill like Top Sirloin steaks AND steakburgers.

Everybody’s happy and there’s no complaining. A real plus when you have pre-teen boys.

It’s just as easy to order this top sirloin steak duo and then cook it together as it would be to just prepare one entrée. And, hey, variety is the spice of life!

What are some of your favorite “duos?”

Game Day Food Ideas

Caramelized Onion and Gorgonzola Sliders

There are some great games going on this time of year. And we’ve got to have great food to go along with them.

If it’s not a federal law, it should be.

My go-to has always been steakburgers during the game. But why not try smaller sliders with a twist like caramelized onion and gorgonzola sliders or applewood bacon and cheddar sliders?

And then there are steaks when you really want to get serious. Boneless ribeyes are my favorites, but there are so many delicious cuts to choose from – why not grill up a variety?

Hickory smoked baby back ribs are a great finger food that’ll satisfy for sure. Or try a beef brisket or all beef hot dogs. You really can’t go wrong with any of those.

Check out these tailgating options, even if you’re “tailgating” in your own living room. You’re sure to find plenty of game day food ideas that will whet your appetite!

Summertime Favorites

By

strip_chk_burger_Detail

Oh, those beautiful summer days!

They’re coming to a close. But we still have a few days to savor the tastes of wonderful, glorious summer.

My summertime favorites?

Anything light and easy.

A fresh chicken breast on the grill. A little lemon juice and some greens and I’m a happy gal.

Burgers! Adding avocado at this time of year is so refreshing and delicious.

Grilled tenderloin salad. Try this one with peaches, pecans and limes. It looks, tastes and smells like summer.

And finally … steaks! A ribeye is my fave any time of year. Just sitting outside in the summer sun, smelling the aroma of a steak on the grill puts me in my happy place fast.

How about you? What are your summertime classics? Time is running out!

Tailgating 101

By

beefdog

Football season is in full effect and baseball is still going on. It’s officially tailgating season!

You know all about bringing folding chairs, your favorite drinks – maybe a huge TV – but what about food?

What’s the best food to bring on a tailgating adventure?

First of all, it needs to be simple, easy and easy to serve.

Anything you can prepare on a portable grill is ideal. Some of my faves are steaks, all-beef hot dogs, burgers, beef kabobs and these tailgating beauties.

Basically, BEEF is the name of the game.

Want to be more adventurous? Check out these tailgating favorites and try some ribs, a brisket or even sandwich steaks.

Visit here for more tailgating ideas. The main thing is you want FLAVOR and FUEL to push your team onto that big win.

Have fun and tailgate on, friends!

Labor Day Favorites

By

combGrill_09_lrgc2

What are all holidays made for?

Food! That’s what!

And this Labor Day is no different. We’ve got one last summerish hurrah coming up and I intend to do it up right. I know you do, too!

Let’s get in those summer grilling favorites before the crispness of fall sets in…

We’ll start with burgers. I mean, heck, it’s not Labor Day without burgers!

Steaks are a must as well. Is the grill going? Then steaks must be on it!

Throw in some ribs, too. They’re a traditional Labor Day favorite at our house. We’re outside so it’s okay to lick our fingers, right?

Now sides are very important at this soiree. There are plenty of side dish recipes to choose from.

These delicious deviled eggs must make an appearance. Everyone will literally eat them up! Get the recipe here.

BBQ baked beans? Yes, please! These go with everything – and they’ll go fast. Try this fantastic recipe.

Feeding a big crowd? This potato salad recipe will please ’em all. And check out more recipes here whether you want to go fancy or simple and traditional. There’s something right up your alley!

Have a great Labor Day feast, my friends! And send summer out with a bang!

Beach Cookout Checklist

By

steakkabobs

You’re grilling out at the beach!

Fun times!

What are you going to take?

Well, if there’s not already a grill set up down there, you’ll need a GRILL!

Plus, all the accompaniments — charcoal, lighter, etc. — whatever heat source it requires.

Then, I suggest something customizable like the KABOBS above or BURGERS.

You can marinate or season either before bringing them onto the sand and then just pop them onto the grill when you’re ready.

Everyone can create exactly the kabob or burger they like with the fixings you provide. So offer plenty.

You’ll need a CLEAN PLATTER to serve your main entree on, plus plates for each person.

Ensure that all of your serving trays and plastic tubs are COVERED or coverable. There are lot of flying critters out there by the water and we don’t want them feasting on your beautiful meal.

And aside from all the things we know you’ll remember (sides, utensils, condiments) make sure to bring lots and lots of BEVERAGES. A large quantity and a large variety. The beach is dehydrating so bring tons of liquid!

Summer goes by fast, so have a wonderful time on your next beach cookout — and when you’re prepared it’s easy as pie!
