Recipes for the Big Game

The big game coming up requires food – and lots of it.

What will you be making to munch on while two teams who have made it to the championship of all championships battle it out?

It’s a lot of pressure . . . on you.

Game Day Recipes

But here are some delicious steak recipes to help you make the most out of this once-a-year fiesta.

Yes, I said STEAK recipes. That’s because every big party means steak to me. It’s just a natural.

First and foremost, Crab Stuffed Filet is absolutely to-die-for. Beautiful filet mignon is stuffed with lump crabmeat and flavored with amazing spices and garnish. It’s really an unforgettable dish. Your guests might even forget there’s a football game going on they’ll be so enthralled with this recipe.

Be prepared to share your recipe – if you feel generous.

Or, another recipe featuring the amazing, delicate filet mignon is Spicy Bourbon Filets. Seems a fitting tribute to the big game gathering. This recipe includes soy sauces mixed with bourbon, Jalapeno Tabasco sauce and cracked green peppercorns. I told you it was spicy!

There are lots of great sirloin steak options for this party, too. Try a KC Cheese Steak using Top Sirloin sandwich steaks, onions and Swiss cheese. It’s ooey, gooey, cheesy and delicious! And this one is served on a sandwich bun. It’s always a hit!

Another fantastic recipe using sirloin steaks is the Lemon Herbed Top Sirloin. This one is so easy and provides a great, practical option for those who don’t want all the spiciness or cheeses. With lemon zest and Worcestershire sauce seasoning, this one is sure to please even the most picky eater.

With these great recipe ideas, you’re sure to have a party for the big game that people will be talking about for a long time – and they won’t even mention football!

What? You haven’t? Don’t tell me you forgot! Well, no worries, there’s still time to rejoice in all that soup has to offer.

It won’t mind if you’re late to the party. It’s awesome like that.

Soup Recipes

As you might have guessed, my favorite soups are the ones that incorporate steak. They’re so hearty and they keep me warm and fill me up – especially at this time of year.

Filet mignon and sirloin steak seem to be the popular soup steak cuts. They work really well to flavor soup and become really, really tender while simmering. But, hey, let’s not limit ourselves!

Do you have a favorite soup recipe you like to bring out at this time of year? If not, and you’re looking for some inspiration, here are some delicious soup recipes to try.

You can make your own Beef and Mushroom Soup at home and revel in the tastiness of the beef tenderloin tips and shitake mushrooms.

With minced onion, garlic and sherry for flavor, this soup is a dazzler for wintertime.

Ever tried Hamburger Soup? It’s National Soup Month – so it’s the perfect time! Utilizing classic ground beef, tomatoes, beef bouillon and other terrific flavors, this soup is a tasty alternative to chili. Try it! It just might become a new staple in your house.

Love bacon? How about this recipe for Cream of Celery Soup with Bacon? It’s so creamy and includes hearty potatoes, chicken stock and, of course, bacon!

Anything that includes bacon gets an A+ in my book.

There are so many amazing soups to serve out there. Have fun researching the perfect soup for your hungry brood. This month, let’s give soup its due. It’s absolutely MADE for warming us up in this cold, cold month of January!

Fall Wine Pairings

Don’t you just love the changing of seasons? We get to shift our palate’s focus on food that satisfies us in the current season. And when a chill is in the air and great food is on the table it’s time to focus on wine pairings with a fall flair!

Fall Wine Pairings

My family lives for this time. They can’t get enough football, sweaters and hoodies – and beef. Can you tell I live with all boys?

But I love this time of year, too. We’re forced to huddle around the dinner table and reconnect. Food does that. And I am thankful for it. It’s why I’m obsessed with it. It’s not just about eating.

At this time of year, hearty food begins to dominate my menus and there are some amazing wines that bring out the flavors of fall beautifully. That’s only for the 21-and-over crowd, but we are educating our sons on the finer side of life for when they are adults themselves.

Steaks are always on the menu around here no matter what time of year it is. So what types of steak make the autumn grade?

Filet Mignon Wine Pairing

Let’s start with filet mignon. A delicious, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir works perfectly. Check out this selection of wines and a wine pairing guide to help you make this all-important decision. Then try this recipe for Spicy Bourbon Filets. The bourbon recipe is warm and hearty and spicy. Plus, you use bacon-wrapped filet mignons in this recipe – a perfect way to bring some heat to your table.

Bone-In Ribeye Wine Pairing

Want to serve a Bone-in Ribeye steak? So amazing. A Bodegas Puig Priorat Dominicus, Priorat will go nicely with that. Add some twice-baked potatoes, a salad and cheesecake for dessert and that’s one fall meal to really write home about.

So what are your favorite fall meals? Consult the wine pairing guide and you’ll find the perfect wine to go with that!
